Welcome to Christchurch Angling Club

CAC is one of the longest established fishing clubs in the UK, having been founded in 1938. Our dedicated website has been designed to benefit our members and for those looking for more information about fishing opportunities in the local area and how joining CAC could benefit you.

We have some of the best fishing in the area for both coarse and game fishing enthusiasts. Our fisheries include some of the best stretches of the Dorset Stour and Hampshire Avon, including the famous Somerley Estate waters, which offer fantastic coarse lakes, coarse and salmon fishing on the river, trout fishing on Hamer Lake and brown trout fishing on the streams and carriers. The Club owns the fishing rights too many of its waters and we pride ourselves in investing in our fisheries so that they continue to deliver excellent fishing for our members.

The Club is run by an elected committee, which is made up of our members. We have a dedicated office which is usually manned from 9am until 1pm, Monday to Friday. Please contact us with any questions or suggestions you may have via email or telephone.

About Our Venues

For the roach enthusiast, areas such as Horseport and Redbrook on the Hampshire Avon and White Mill on the Dorset Stour offer a very good opportunity of a 2lb+ fish. Barbel and chub anglers are spoilt for choice with many venues holding a good head of specimen fish. Our many stretches of the Avon and Stour afford the angler a good opportunity of connecting with chub in excess of 7lb and barbel to 17lb+.

Although challenging, salmon fishing on the Somerley Estate and other stretches of the Hampshire Avon can produce some superb fish. For those willing to put in the hours, springers can be caught in excess of 25lb and are caught regularly each season. Although numbers of fish caught are not that great, the quality and size of fish make the Avon salmon a very worthwhile quarry. A fish of 32lb+ was landed from a stretch where we have the fishing on the opposite bank…..a fish that would be regarded as a ‘fish of a lifetime’ on any salmon river in the world.

The trout angler is also catered for with our fisheries at White Sheet and Hamer. These lakes are regularly stocked with rainbows. Apart from the average stock fish, we always put in one or two surprises. Biggest reported rainbow this year is a 10lb 4oz fish from White Sheet. Brown trout are also stocked in the Ibsley trout stream and the Ellingham and Woodside carriers on the Somerley Estate throughout the season and offer challenging sport to the game angler.

Night fishing is offered on some of our carp lakes and night fishing/extended hours fishing is available on many stretches of river. Regular matches are held throughout the year, which are always enjoyable and well attended and the Club run regular coaching sessions throughout the summer for fly casting on alternate Thursday evenings.
