Our portfolio of waters take a huge amount of upkeep whilst we also have numerous long term projects on the go. We asked our Fisheries Manager, Pete, to log all that was done throughout July. As you can see, it is a vast amount of time and effort that our volunteers put in to making our fisheries as good as they are. From cutting grass, maintaining wildlife fences and general strimming to complex tree surgery, lake repairs and bridge building. The input is huge and we are desperate for more help from the members or the assistance of paid contractors to carry out project work and free up our band of helpers. It’s a drum we bang a lot but it is imperative for the club to thrive that we get this work done by one means or another.

Strimmed around all 3 ponds also strimmed some of the inside and outside of otter fence.

Went to buy glass, lock up etc for hut at Ibsley and putty for monk at Wedgehill
Continuing to treat fence with preservative. It’s a long fence when you’re doing both sides!
Trying to repair monk in top pond. Strimming outside of the otter fence. Sprayed the weeds in car park with weed killer and general clearing around the venue.
The Leaze bottom end
Strimmed paths to banks and swims on both sides of the river. Cut back anything over hanging the footpath by the entrance gate
Car park at Canford bridge given a tidy up.
Finished repairing the monk on top pond. More of treating the fence with preservative, almost finished. Finished strimming around the otter fence. General clearing. Strimmed and cut back overhangs from the main gate back down the track for about 200 yards
Started to strim road bank by the slope.
Finished strimming the track and made a start on strimming the otter fence.
Moving scaffolding up to the fry bay for the bridge. Cutting weed in the river to open up swims
Cutting swims in the weed in the river. Bridge built over the fray bay and clearing paths.
Meeting with Estate regarding car park, drainage ditches and bridge. Car park and drainage ditches ok to go ahead. A proposal has to be written on how to repair the bridge and sent to Estate. Still lots to do.
Strimmed all around the venue and all swims apart from two.
Checked condition of all platforms, 10 require repairs or rebuilding.
Strimmed and cleared all around hut, put preservative on window frames and added glass and beading to them where missing, then started to hang doors
Cleared brambles and nettles and boards to allow access to clear the inflow channel.
Finished hanging doors to the hut, cleaned and tidied up inside the hut
Pathways mown, swims cut in the weed in the river. Scaffold boards on the bridge treated with preservative and mesh added to them.
