There is a film of algae across much of Shambles at Holtwood. At this stage we do not believe it is blue-green algae but are monitoring the situation closely. We’d ask all members to keep an eye out when visiting the complex and report any signs of distressed fish to the committee and the EA via the numbers in your membership books immediately. Hot weather is expected next week and such outbreaks can impact on dissolved oxygen levels in the water. Some algae can be fatal to dogs so we would recommend that owners of dog permits do not take their dogs to the venue for the foreseeable future, purely to ensure they are safe.
The club have been in touch with the EA and will keep you all updated with any further developments.
Tests by the EA have confirmed that this is NOT blue-green algae but another, non-toxic form of outbreak. The club are continuing to monitor the situation.
