Every Wednesday our River Manager, Adrian, and his band of merry men take to the banks of our river fisheries to improve access, open up pegs and carry out general maintenance. The difference they make is fantastic! Here are a few highlights from their work so far in 2019.
Sopley has seen new swims cut in the copse on the main river (opposite the top end if Upper Winkton) enabling access to areas unfished for years.
Lower Winkton car park has been opened up to increase security for member’s cars.
At Upper Winkton, they have worked with the River Keeper to transform the lower end of the fishery. The path downstream from the hut has been improved with the construction of a walkway from the cut vegetation.
On the same stretch, the overgrown stream below the initial bridge was cleared and swims cut in preparation of the winter rains. This area is bone dry during low levels but once the water flows over sill it is a great side water with fish seeking sanctuary from the flow of the main river. Neil took full advantage to trot this area last week and was rewarded with a lovely net of chub.
The gents are having a well earned rest over the next couple of weeks but are always crying out for more volunteers. If you want to get involved just contact our office and leave your details. All tools are provided and, as well as helping the club, you will enjoy some great camaraderie whilst talking all things fishing with some superb anglers.
