Folks, the persistent hot, dry weather causes reduced dissolved oxygen levels in all our waters. We are therefore suspending the use of all sacks and retaining slings immediately until further notice. All waters remain open and we ask members to be vigilant. Please report any signs of fish in distress to the office, on here or (in severe cases) the EA.
When landing fish allow them to rest in the net for a few minutes rather than taking them straight out of the water. Please ensure all fish are out of the water for a minimal amount of time. Recovery times will be increased so support fish until they regain there strength. This is especially important on rivers where chub and barbel can take up to 30 minutes to recover. Hold fish facing upstream in steady flow until you are sure they can safely be released.
Our members are our strongest asset at times like this, watching waters and educating those unaware of the special measures needed to maintain the safety of our fish stocks. Your assistance is hugely appreciated.
