Carp Fishing
Carp Fishing
Like much of the country, carp fishing in Christchruch Angling Club is very popular.
We are very fortunate to have numerous fisheries containing carp for all levels of experience and styles of fishing. Our waters range from small ponds to vast gravel pits containing specimen fish. The Club boasts a healthy stocking policy of quality fish to ensure the carp fishing of the future.
A new complex for 2013 is the legendary Mockbeggar Lakes, which form part of our Somerley Estate fishings.
A firm favourite with the current carp angling membership is the Somerley Estate lakes consisting of Meadow and King Vincents lakes.
King Vincents offers excellent fishing, from floater and float fishing in the margins during the summer to mid winter madness. Meadow Lake is renowned for the number of 20lb plus carp which are present and the lake record is a carp touching 38lb.
In the winter, it is not unheard of for there to be multiple captures, no matter what the weather or temperature and this is a highly recommended carp venue. Neither water is exceptionally difficult, as both are quite hungry waters and a good application of bait will produce quality fishing.
A couple of our smaller venues such as Wedgehill and Holtwood are tailor made for match style fishing. These waters are also used as stock venues for our larger waters.
Both of these venues are ideal for juniors to learn their fishing craft and pit their wits against the hard fighting carp.
One of our up and coming waters is Hucklesbrook Lake. Quality Fishery Management has made this water easily accessible to all. Stocking of some stunning carp in this water will secure the future fishing and in years to come will be a premier water for 20lb and 30lb+ carp. Multiple catches occur during the summer months, but the lake also fishes well in the winter and already the lake has produced a common carp of over 35lb.
For the absolutely dedicated carp angler who is looking for a challenge and does not mind sitting watching the water for months on end with no fish, then the opposite end of the spectrum exists in shape of Spinnaker Lake.
Spinnaker produces common and mirror carp to over 40lb each season (but don’t tell anyone else that, will you)!
Night fishing is available on Spinnaker, Hucklesbrook and Somerley Lakes (Meadow) by ticket only to members.
Finally, for the pioneering element of you, the rivers surely offer the biggest challenge and there is plenty of river to choose from. Both the Hampshire Avon and the Dorset Stour have vast untapped potential and already carp of over 30lb have been landed from both waters.
Good luck and tight lines.
