Ringwood Fishery – This stretch of the Middle Avon is prime chub and barbel territory. There is a weir at the top limit and some lovely deep glides amongst gravel shallows. The huge head of large chub present respond to both static baits and trotted offerings between the lush ranunculus. The main river and King’s Stream offer superb variety with parking at either end of the stretch.
Upper Winkton – A superb lower Avon stretch. Last season saw roach to 3lb 5oz, chub to 7lb 9oz, pike to 23lb and perch over 3lb along with large barbel caught. Two weirs, a lovely tree lined sidestream and the usual glides and shallows offer every conceivable swim possible. This stretch produced many 6lb+ chub in the opening two weeks of he season along with at lest one ‘seven’. The river keeper and our bailiffs are regularly on hand to point you in the right direction, whatever your quarry.
Sopley Main River – Immediately upstream of Upper Winkton, although on the East bank. The 2015/16 season is the first time in many years that the whole c.2km of this stretch is available to anglers. The river here runs through an SSSI and boasts a wonderful array of wildlife in a stunning setting. Large chub and barbel are believed to dominate the stretch and provides a superb opportunity to investigate the untapped potential it holds.
Sopley Mill Stream – The Mill Stream often remains fishable when the main river can be flooded throughout the Avon Valley. The mixture of gravel shallows, deep glides and far bank cover provide many varied swims and some idyllic trotting conditions. Historically, the water has produced barbel to within ounces of the British record. These still form the main target species with plenty of chub, roach, dace and some large pike also present. Fishing started well with bags of dace and chublets plentiful to those wanting to trot maggot and chub to 6lb 5oz reported in the first week of our acquisition for the 2015/16 season.
Details of the Sopley Waters can be found here: Sopley Fishery
Nea Meadows – A small park lake packed with carp, tench, bream and roach. Quite easy fishing and a great place to take a youngster for some hectic action!
