Hucklesbrook is a six acre gravel pit that holds a good head of carp and tench. Commons to over 35lb and mirrors to over 25lb are present with an average size fish being a high double. The lake also attracts many specialist tench anglers with specimens to 12lb reported, with a large head of 6-8lb fish. The lake also holds an abundance of silver fish with the large shoals of roach and rudd rarely fished for. In addition there is a growing perch population who are taking advantage of the absence of pike to pile on the weight. Crucians have been landed in the past and are believed to still be present in smaller numbers although are rarely the target of angler’s attentions.
The venue has well established banks and large, cut swims making access very good and the fishing comfortable. The flat path around the water makes the use of a trolley easy. There are many features on the bottom and a large island but don’t ignore the deep, tree-lined margins where many fish patrol. The club owns the lake and, with this in mind, we have introduced some additional linears and fully scaled mirrors to bolster the stocks already present. These fish were all stunning in appearance.
Twelve night tickets are available each night with a 5 on 2 off policy. These are available from Ringwood Tackle, Avon Angling and Bournemouth Fishing Lodge. There is plenty of parking space and toilet facilities are available at the venue. Third rod permits can be purchased on an annual basis.
