Saturday 3rd October saw the Avon Roach Project hold their annual fund raising match across many stretches of the river. CAC, along with other angling organisations in the Avon valley, offered the use of some of our waters along with a free annual membership as a prize in the raffle. The Project does superb work in helping the noble roach to re-establish itself on the river and we were delighted to welcome them onto our waters.
Over 70 anglers fished the actual match from Ringwood to the Royalty across CAC, RDAA and Southern Fisheries waters but it was those who chose our Winkton stretch who had the best of things. With refreshments and advice on hand from our bailiff, Ian, and club representatives the top three fish were all caught from the venue. For the first time in the match’s history it was roach that took the top two spots, the wining fish being a 1lb 7oz beauty. A cracking dace took 3rd spot.
A great day all round raised a shed-load of money for the scheme and, in tough conditions, it provided a great showcase for the club and Winkton Fishery. Thanks to all who helped out and took part.
